Damascus, Sept. 21 (SANA) — Syria's Ministry of Agriculture projects the country's olive harvest to reach approximately 954,000 tons in the 2026 season, marking a substantial rebound from the 412,000 tons recorded in 2025.
According to ministry figures, around 20 percent of the expected 2026 harvest—equivalent to roughly 191,000 tons—will be allocated for table olives, while the remaining 80 percent, or about 763,000 tons, will be channeled to olive presses, with expected olive oil output of approximately 101,000 tons.
Olive cultivation in Syria spans more than 677,725 hectares (around 6,777 square kilometers) across the country, with approximately 101 million olive trees, based on ministry data.
The ministry's Olive Office estimated 2025 olive production at around 412,000 tons, a year-on-year decline of more than 45 percent. Olive oil output for the 2025 season stood at roughly 66,000 tons.
At the provincial level, Aleppo is forecast to lead Syria's 2026 olive production with an estimated 226,300 tons. Idlib follows in second place with around 156,800 tons, trailed by Tartous at 127,800 tons, Latakia at 121,100 tons, and Hama at 100,800 tons.
Olive cultivation remains a cornerstone of Syria's agricultural sector, sustaining rural livelihoods and a wide range of downstream activities, from table olive processing to olive oil pressing and bottling.
The ministry's projections are part of its preparations for the 2026 olive season and its ongoing efforts to monitor and track agricultural output across Syrian provinces.
