Tunisia’s Office National de l'Huile (ONH) has announced a series of strategic directives designed to modernize the olive oil sector and enhance its global competitiveness. Moez Ben Amor, Director General of the ONH, stated that these measures aim to align the domestic industry with evolving trends in both local and international markets.

Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar in Sidi Bouzid, Ben Amor highlighted that key priorities include expanding oil storage capacity and upgrading laboratory services. He noted the activation of the ONH laboratory in Sidi Bouzid to improve service delivery, while maintaining collaboration with the accredited laboratory in Sfax for specialized and comprehensive technical analysis.

Regarding the current season's harvest, the official indicated that production levels are expected to be lower than the record-breaking figures seen last year. However, he emphasized that the current strategy shifts focus away from raw volume, prioritizing instead the enhancement of the oil's quality and its overall economic yield.

A central pillar of the new roadmap is the promotion of bottled olive oil exports and the expansion of high-value organic oils in foreign markets. These value-added products are seen as vital for strengthening the brand identity of Tunisian olive oil and increasing its commercial value globally.

Furthermore, Ben Amor underscored the importance of encouraging investment across the entire value chain—from production and processing to export—to maximize economic returns and ensure the long-term development of the sector.
