JAKARTA – Indonesia's Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has announced a reduction in the crude palm oil (CPO) reference price for export duties (BK) and export levies (PE) for the period of August 1-31, 2026. The new reference price is set at 996.52 US dollars per metric ton (MT).
This value represents a decrease of 4.38 US dollars, or 0.44 percent, compared to the previous CPO reference price for July 1-31, 2026, which stood at 1,000.90 US dollars per MT.
Concurrently with the lowered reference price, the CPO export duty (BK) for August 2026 has been adjusted to 148 US dollars per MT.
Tommy Andana, Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade, attributed the decline in the August 2026 CPO reference price to 'the weakening of global demand, particularly from India, a major CPO importer, as well as a drop in world crude oil prices.'
The determination of this reference price adheres to Column Number 8 of Annex Letter C of the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 38 of 2024, as amended by PMK Number 68 of 2025. Similarly, the CPO export levy (PE) tariff is governed by Letter A of PMK Number 69 of 2025, amended by PMK Number 9 of 2026.
Based on these regulations, the CPO export levy is fixed at 12.5 percent of the CPO reference price, equating to 124.56 US dollars per MT.
The calculation for the CPO reference price is based on the average market prices observed between June 20 and July 19, 2026. During this period, the Indonesian CPO Exchange recorded an average of 892.96 US dollars per MT, the Malaysian CPO Exchange averaged 1,100.08 US dollars per MT, and the Rotterdam CPO port price was 1,509.09 US dollars per MT.
Ultimately, the official CPO reference price of 996.52 US dollars per MT for August 2026 was specifically derived from the average prices of the Malaysian CPO Exchange and the Indonesian CPO Exchange.
In addition to CPO, refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) palm olein cooking oil products, when sold in branded packaging with a net weight of 25 kilograms or less, will incur an export duty (BK) of 33 US dollars per MT.
This specific duty for RBD palm olein is established under the Minister of Trade Decree (Kepmendag) Number 1668 of 2026, which outlines the list of eligible branded and packed RBD palm olein products up to 25 kilograms net weight.
