International prices for staple food commodities experienced a slight uptick in July 2026, influenced primarily by extreme heatwaves, shifting energy market dynamics, and lingering geopolitical uncertainty. According to the latest statistical release from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), rising international quotations across grains, sugar, and vegetable oils outweighed price declines in the meat and dairy sectors.

Vegetable Oils Reach Multi-Year High

Advancing by 2.0 percent from June, the FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index surged to its highest level since mid-2022. International palm oil values rose steadily, propelled by robust domestic consumption in Indonesia's expanding biodiesel mandate and rising benchmark crude oil prices. World soy oil quotations also strengthened, spurred by consistent feedstock absorption in the United States and resilient international import appetite due to favorable price competitiveness. Conversely, global market values for sunflower and rapeseed oils recorded modest pullbacks.
