The Higher Institute of Agricultural Sciences at Chott Mariem in Sousse hosted a scientific forum on the olive oil sector on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Organized by the International Olive Festival Association of Kalâa Kebira, the event coincided with the start of the olive harvest season, serving as a platform for technical and professional advancement in Tunisia's vital oils industry.
Wadee Abooda, the forum's General Coordinator, stated that this gathering marks the first activity of the 45th International Olive Festival. The primary objective is to facilitate knowledge exchange among industry stakeholders, enhance professional networks, and modernize operational mechanisms to strengthen the global competitiveness of Tunisian olive oil.
The forum's agenda focused on strategic export avenues for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) olive oil and highlighted support mechanisms for export-oriented packaging and bottling. These initiatives aim to increase the value-added component of Tunisian exports. The event also featured specialized tasting sessions for olive oils from the Kalâa Kebira region.
The gathering brought together a wide array of industry professionals, including mill owners, producers, and exporters, alongside experts and institutional representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Tunisia, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis.
