In a major food safety enforcement operation, a joint inspection team from the National Food Safety Authority in Sharqia Governorate, in coordination with security forces, raided an abandoned farm that had been illegally converted into a facility for recycling waste fats and oils of unknown origin.

The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 30 metric tonnes of fats and oils that lacked any documentation, health certificates, or traceability to authorized producers or suppliers. The materials were found stored under unsafe and unhygienic conditions, with no temperature controls or proper containment measures in place.

Authority officials stated that preliminary analysis of the seized materials indicated they were derived from food industry waste, including used cooking oils, animal fats, and processing byproducts, that had been collected and were being prepared for reintroduction into the food supply chain without any treatment or quality control measures.

The farm owner and operators were referred to the public prosecutor for investigation on charges related to food adulteration, endangering public health, and operating an unlicensed food processing facility. Authorities confirmed that all seized materials would be disposed of safely in accordance with Egyptian food safety regulations.

The National Food Safety Authority called on citizens to report any suspicious food manufacturing or storage activities, emphasizing that protecting public health from adulterated and unsafe food products remains a top enforcement priority.
