Jordan's Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khreisat, has emphasized that the olive sector serves as a strategic pillar for the national economy and a key driver of food security. Speaking at the official opening of the 2026/2027 olive pressing season at the Al-Omari presses in Irbid, Khreisat highlighted the sector's vital role in job creation, supporting rural communities, and ensuring environmental sustainability.
Initial estimates suggest that olive oil production for the current season will reach approximately 30,000 tons. The Minister confirmed that 153 licensed presses across the Kingdom are technically prepared for operations. He noted that the mid-October start date for pressing was strategically chosen to allow fruit to reach optimal maturity, ensuring the production of high-quality oil that meets certified standards.
Khreisat stated that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Syndicate of Jordanian Olive Press Owners and relevant regulatory bodies, has intensified field efforts to combat fraud and monitor misleading advertisements on social media. He stressed that there will be no leniency regarding practices that could harm the reputation of Jordanian olive oil in local and international markets, praising the technological advancements witnessed in modern pressing facilities.
Tayseer Al-Najdawi, head of the Syndicate of Jordanian Olive Press Owners and Olive Producers, noted the sector's expansion to over 11 million olive trees. He credited the introduction of modern technology in the pressing process for significant improvements in production efficiency and oil quality. He urged consumers to purchase oil from trusted sources to ensure product safety.
Furthermore, Naif Al-Omari and Mahmoud Al-Omari of Al-Omari Presses highlighted the importance of the partnership between the private sector and government health and security agencies in delivering a premium product. Representing the farming community, Dr. Khalid Obeidat emphasized the necessity of adhering to best agricultural practices to maintain the distinguished reputation of Jordanian olive oil worldwide.
