According to the European Commission, total imports of oilseeds and vegetable oils into the European Union since the start of the 2025/26 marketing year (which began on 1 July) remain lower than last year, reflecting expectations of increased domestic oilseed production and processing capacity.
As of 20 August, EU imports of rapeseed (canola) stood at around 330,000 tonnes, down 42% year-on-year and 34% lower than the previous week.
Rapeseed oil imports, meanwhile, reached 90,000 tonnes, up 88% compared with last year.
Earlier data showed that the European Union had cut its exports of oilseeds and processed oilseed products by more than 30% in July.
Favourable weather conditions and expanded oilseed plantings in major producing countries such as France and Germany point to strong domestic harvests. However, according to the European Commission's current estimates, the EU's rapeseed crop is likely to fall short of earlier forecasts (18.5 million tonnes of rapeseed), though it will still be around 1.9 million tonnes higher than in 2024.
