Data released today, Monday, by the National Agricultural Observatory showed that Tunisia's olive oil export revenues reached 1,691.4 million dinars between November 2024 and February 2025, a decline of 26.8% compared with the same period of the previous agricultural season.
Tunisian olive oil export volumes during the first four months of the 2024-2025 season reached around 123,200 tonnes, up 40% compared with the same period of the 2023-2024 season.
However, this increase failed to translate into higher revenues, as the average export price fell by 48% to 13.73 dinars per kilogramme, compared with 26.41 dinars per kilogramme at the end of February 2024.
In February 2025, Spain was the top destination for Tunisian olive oil exports, accounting for 26.9% of total exports, followed by Italy with 26.3%, then the United States with 23.9%.
Tunisian organic olive oil exports totalled 24,800 tonnes, worth 343.5 million dinars, at an average price of 13.85 dinars per kilogramme. This category represented 20.1% of total export volume and 20.3% of total export value.
Italy topped the list of importers of Tunisian organic olive oil with a 65% share, followed by Spain with 16%, then the United States with 10%.
The report noted that bottled olive oil accounted for no more than 42% of total exports, reflecting Tunisia's continued reliance on exporting the bulk of its production as bulk oil, which deprives the country of higher added value through packaged exports.
