The Brazilian government has decided to fully exempt imports of Tunisian virgin olive oil from customs duties, reducing the tariff from 9% to 0%, effective from 14 March 2025.
This decision represents an important and exceptional step, according to a statement issued by the Tunisian Embassy in Brazil on Friday, and offers a genuine opportunity to strengthen the presence of Tunisian olive oil in Brazil's promising market.
Brazil's olive oil imports reached around 250,000 tonnes in 2024, with a total value estimated at approximately 695 million US dollars, a development that aligns with Tunisia's efforts to support the sector, ensure the success of the current season, and prepare well for the 2025-2026 season.
The Tunisian Embassy in Brazil reaffirmed its full readiness to support national olive oil exporting companies by providing them with all relevant information and assisting them in registering their laboratories in the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture's database, a step considered essential for entry into the Brazilian market.
It also stressed the readiness of its departments, including the trade and consular office in São Paulo, to provide all necessary clarifications and support.
