
Egypt's Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has denied reports circulating about a shortage of cooking oil, affirming that supplies remain abundant across markets and the subsidy system. The ministry explained that the strategic oil reserve, whether available domestically or secured through contracts, is entirely safe and sufficient to cover consumption for 5.6 months.
The ministry noted that distribution of December's subsidised ration quotas is proceeding smoothly, with the disbursement rate exceeding 65% as of this morning. In a move to expand options for citizens, the Holding Company for Food Industries introduced a new 1.5-litre oil pack priced at 56 Egyptian pounds starting 1 December, alongside the continued availability of 800ml packs priced at 30 pounds and 700ml packs priced at 27 pounds.
The ministry also confirmed that large quantities of free-market and blended oils are being pumped into consumer cooperatives, private-sector retail chains, and one-day markets across all governorates to ensure price stability and meet all citizens' needs.
