Russia's sunflower oil exports to India generated US$1.17 billion in revenue during the first seven months of 2026, marking a 34.7% increase from US$868.8 million recorded in the same period a year earlier, according to data from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The monthly figures point to an even sharper acceleration. Export revenues more than doubled between June and July, climbing from US$54.1 million to US$120.2 million.
In volume terms, shipments to India rose to 859,000 tonnes in the January-July period, up from 730,400 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2025. July alone saw 85,600 tonnes delivered, nearly double the 45,100 tonnes shipped in the same month a year earlier.
Beyond sunflower oil, Russia is also expanding its soybean oil footprint in the Indian market. Soybean oil exports to India reached 39,100 tonnes valued at US$47.8 million in the first seven months of 2026.
Russia remains the largest supplier of sunflower oil to India, accounting for a dominant share of total imports. Argentina ranks as the second-biggest supplier. For context, India imported a total of 2.89 million tonnes of sunflower oil worth US$3.46 billion in 2025, compared with 3.74 million tonnes valued at US$3.7 billion in 2024, indicating that overall import volumes have softened even as Russian flows continue to grow.
