Russia has launched a renewed wave of strikes against Ukraine's critical oilseed processing infrastructure, with a major facility in the city of Dnipro operated by global agribusiness major Bunge among the latest targets in the escalating campaign.
Prior to the conflict, Ukraine was the world's leading exporter of sunflower oil, but export revenues have fallen sharply since hostilities began. The Dnipro plant, ranked among the country's top five processing facilities, has a daily handling capacity of 1,600 tons of oilseeds.
Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed that the attack resulted in two fatalities and several injuries. The incident marks the fourth assault on Ukrainian oilseed infrastructure over the past 18 months, underscoring the vulnerability of a sector that anchors the country's agricultural export economy.
In a related development, industry leader Allseeds has suspended operations at its Odesa facility, citing rising operational risks. Despite these disruptions, projections suggest Ukraine could lift its sunflower oil output to 5.8 million tons in the coming agricultural year, raising questions about the country's capacity to restore its pre-war market position while contending with continued security threats.
