According to data from the National Statistics Institute, Portugal recorded historic agricultural results in 2024, with olive oil production reaching its second-highest level on record, while almond output set a new national record.
The country's olive oil production totalled 180,000 tonnes, the second-largest harvest in Portugal's history, driven largely by the maturing of intensive olive groves in the Alentejo region. At the same time, almond production jumped to 91,000 tonnes, marking a new record and reinforcing Portugal's position as the European Union's second-largest almond producer.
However, the "Agricultural Statistics 2024" report issued by the National Statistics Institute showed a notable decline in the national grape harvest, with output falling by 8.1% compared with the previous year, mainly attributed to disease outbreaks and severe weather conditions that adversely affected the vineyard sector.
