Crude palm oil futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives are expected to trade with a slight downward bias next week, as the recent sharp price rally could curb buying interest, according to a trader.
Palm oil trader David Ng said the recent rise in palm oil market prices has made palm oil more expensive compared with other vegetable oils.
He added: "So we may see demand shift away from palm oil towards other vegetable oils, which could lead to weaker demand in the coming weeks."
He continued: "Next week we expect the market to trade between 4,450 and 4,650 ringgit."
On a weekly basis:
The August 2025 contract stood at 4,400 ringgit per tonne last Friday.
Weekly trading volume fell to 361,870 lots compared with 472,033 lots the previous week, while open interest slipped to 249,263 lots from 249,718 lots.
The physical price of crude palm oil for August delivery in the southern region stood at 4,400 ringgit per tonne last Friday, while the September southern delivery price was recorded at 4,470 ringgit per tonne.
