PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (KL:PETDAG) has officially scaled up its used cooking oil (UCO) collection programme, reaching a milestone of 100 dedicated gathering points throughout the nation. According to an official statement released by the company on Saturday, this strategic expansion is designed to provide the public with a seamless and accessible method to convert domestic kitchen waste into a supplementary revenue stream. Concurrently, the initiative aims to promote environmentally responsible waste disposal methods via officially certified and authorized channels.

The company further highlighted that the accumulated volume of used cooking oil will undergo specialized processing for diverse commercial applications. Most notably, these applications include the refining and manufacturing of cleaner, alternative energy sources.

Azureen Azita Abdullah, the Chief Operating Officer of PETRONAS Dagangan, remarked that the enthusiastic participation from communities underscores a rising public consciousness regarding the critical need for sustainable and responsible waste management practices.

Providing a detailed breakdown of the project’s performance, Azureen disclosed that as of March 2026, the network had successfully grown to include 100 active stations nationwide. This extensive footprint has enabled the collection of more than 1.6 million kilogrammes of UCO. Furthermore, the program has successfully funneled approximately RM4.8 million back into the community, benefiting over 560,000 active participants. She emphasized that minor, daily household routines can generate substantial positive ripples, benefiting both ecological preservation and societal well-being.

Additionally, Azureen pointed out that the gathered used cooking oil possesses significant potential for transformation into higher-value, cleaner aviation fuels, specifically Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This transition beautifully illustrates how conventional household waste can be successfully repurposed to drive forward future-ready, sustainable energy solutions.
