According to the latest data released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global palm oil production in the 2025/2026 season is set to reach a record 80.7 million tonnes, up 3% from the previous year.
This estimate is largely based on expected production increases in both Malaysia and Indonesia. Despite a significant seasonal decline in Malaysian output, the USDA currently forecasts production at 20.2 million tonnes, an increase of 820,000 tonnes on the previous year. In Indonesia, production is expected to rise by 1.2 million tonnes year-on-year to reach 46.7 million tonnes.
The agency also notes that global trade in palm oil has increased in recent years. Around 45.6 million tonnes of the tropical oil are estimated to be shipped across the world's oceans during the 2025/2026 marketing year, up 1% from 45.3 million tonnes the previous year.
Global consumption is expected to rise by close to 4% from the previous season to reach 77.7 million tonnes, a level likely to be fully met by global production. Stocks are also forecast to rise by a little over 4% by the end of the marketing season, settling at around 15.3 million tonnes.
