Crude palm oil futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives are expected to see mild profit-taking next week, following the gains it has recently notched up.
Palm oil trader David Ng said the commodity had rallied strongly over recent sessions, which would prompt some traders to take profits, potentially leading to a softening in momentum in the near term. "Crude palm oil prices have risen notably over the past few sessions, breaking above the 4,300 ringgit per tonne level. It is only natural to see some profit-taking after such a rally, as traders tend to sell when prices are high to lock in their gains," he said.
He explained that the market often experiences a slight pullback after a strong upward run, as participants cash in their profits. "We expect the commodity to trade between 4,200 and 4,380 ringgit per tonne next week," he added.
On a weekly basis, the August 2025 contract rose by 118 ringgit to 4,262 ringgit per tonne, while the September 2025 contract gained 135 ringgit to reach 4,309 ringgit per tonne, and the October 2025 contract climbed 138 ringgit to 4,315 ringgit per tonne.
The November 2025 contract added about 88 ringgit to reach 4,305 ringgit per tonne, while the December 2025 contract advanced 115 ringgit to 4,290 ringgit per tonne, and the January 2026 contract rose 94 ringgit to 4,275 ringgit per tonne.
Weekly trading volume rose to 555,657 lots, compared with 435,464 lots in the previous week, while open interest increased to 237,735 contracts from 231,427 previously.
Meanwhile, the physical price of crude palm oil for July in the southern region rose by 130 ringgit to 4,290 ringgit per tonne.
