Norcod has successfully operationalized fish oil production at its Kråkøy harvesting facility, marking a major advancement in its ability to extract value from nearly every part of its harvested cod.
In its initial 14 days of operation, the Norwegian cod farming specialist produced over 14 tonnes of premium fish oil. This dedicated in-house factory allows Norcod to process offcuts that were previously categorized as waste or destined for ensilage, turning them into high-value commercial products.
The facility was integrated into the Kråkøy site over the summer following a strategic investment of approximately NOK 20 million. This project is a cornerstone of Norcod's strategy to maximize revenue per fish, specifically targeting the lucrative nutritional supplements market to diversify its income streams.
Christian Riber, CEO of Norcod, emphasized the significance of the milestone, stating: 'Achieving 98 percent utilisation of our harvested cod, with all products destined for human consumption, is a significant milestone for Norcod and something we are very proud of. Our goal has always been to create the greatest possible value from every fish we produce, and this milestone demonstrates how responsible resource management and commercial opportunities can go hand in hand.'
He further noted that enhancing resource efficiency reduces waste while strengthening the company's overall sustainability profile and financial performance.
Roger Sørgård, Managing Director of Kråkøy Norcod, expressed satisfaction with the early results, noting that the plant is successfully extracting oil from livers, guts, and intestines. Preliminary laboratory tests have confirmed the high quality of the oil derived from this mix of processing offcuts.
Norcod operates across the entire cod value chain with sea farming operations located in Mid-Norway and along the Helgeland coast. The company, which focuses on environmentally conscious blue ocean value creation, is listed on the Euronext Growth market in Oslo.
