Morocco's government council approved draft decree No. 2.25.394 on Thursday, aimed at regulating the quality and safety of vegetable fats and oils intended for consumption and sold on the market. The draft was presented by Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests.
Mustapha Baitas, the Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesman, explained at a press conference following the council's weekly meeting that the draft decree responds to the evolving market for these products and the pressing need to update the existing legal framework. The update aims to facilitate commercial transactions while ensuring product quality and health safety, providing consumers with clear information, and guaranteeing the integrity of transactions, all in line with international rules and standards.
Baitas added that the decree, drawn up on the basis of Law No. 28.07 on the health safety of food products, seeks to establish a regulatory framework for vegetable fats and oils intended for consumption. This includes precisely defining these products, regulating the designations under which they can be marketed, as well as setting out the conditions and methods for labelling and displaying them for sale.
