Lidl Cyprus has successfully delivered on its ambitious palm oil certification target, marking a significant milestone in its strategic partnership with WWF Greece. Today, 97% of the palm oil used in Lidl Cyprus' own-brand products is certified to internationally recognized standards such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) or EU Organic.

Tangible Action for Responsible Sourcing The achievement underscores Lidl's continued commitment to its sustainability roadmap. The international partnership between Lidl and WWF, launched in 2024, extends well beyond target-setting. The two organizations work closely on the ground to reduce environmental impact through joint supply chain risk assessments, binding sustainability criteria for suppliers, and structured monitoring processes.

Global Impact for Responsible Sourcing A central focus of the collaboration is tackling the severe challenges associated with global palm oil production. To counter these issues, Lidl and WWF prioritize strictly deforestation-free and conversion-free supply chains. By relying on rigorous certification schemes, Lidl supports practices that prevent further clearance of critical ecosystems, promote yield optimization on existing agricultural land, and ensure strict traceability and respect for human rights within local communities.

'Together with WWF, we have been able to further sharpen our sourcing standards. We want to offer our customers a selection that is not only convincing in terms of quality but is also produced responsibly,' said Vasiliki Adamidou, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability at Lidl Cyprus.

By expanding the availability of certified palm oil, Lidl makes it easier for its customers to choose products manufactured from certified raw materials. Consumers can be confident that selecting certified products makes a direct contribution to environmental protection and fairer working conditions.

While this achievement represents an important milestone, addressing the deep-rooted ecological risks linked to global palm oil production will require more players across the value chain to follow suit. Lidl and WWF are calling on the broader industry to join the effort by setting and delivering on their own ambitious sustainability targets.
