The General Food and Drug Corporation (GFDC) held an extensive coordination meeting with representatives from the Olive Press Owners and Producers Syndicate, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the food-grade metal packaging manufacturers sector, to discuss the necessary preparations for the 2026/2027 olive oil production season.

During the meeting, Engineer Rana Obaidat, Director General of the GFDC, emphasized the paramount importance of joint coordination aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian olive oil and elevating its quality, thereby solidifying consumer trust. She clarified that the Corporation's plan for this season includes a proactive and integrated approach to tracking olive oil and ensuring its safety throughout all stages of circulation, from the source to the final consumer.

For his part, Mr. Mohammed Taisir Al-Najdawi, Head of the Olive Press Owners and Producers Syndicate, stressed the shared responsibility of all relevant parties in preserving product quality and safety, and in safeguarding the esteemed reputation of Jordanian olive oil in both local and international markets.

The meeting's agenda included a comprehensive review of the labeling requirements for olive oil, with an emphasis on the necessity of clearly stating the production season, and underlining the importance of obtaining the required technical consultation from the GFDC regarding these labels. The discussion also covered specific conditions for metal containers designated for olive oil packaging, which are prohibited from being sold empty without written approval from the GFDC, with a future recommendation to puncture these containers before disposal to prevent their reuse.

The meeting also addressed the licensing requirements for production lines in olive presses and packaging workshops, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) principles, in addition to appropriate transport, preservation, and storage conditions for olive oil products. Discussions further highlighted the importance of enhancing consumer awareness messages throughout the season to ensure their understanding of best practices.

This meeting is part of a series of regular dialogues that the Corporation consistently holds with its partners and service recipients, aiming to raise the level of compliance with approved health and technical requirements and ensure the highest standards of safety and quality for olive oil in the Jordanian market.
