
Johor Plantations Group Bhd (JPG) has signed a memorandum of understanding with two companies linked to the Johor state government, YPJ Plantations Sdn Bhd and PIJ Holdings Sdn Bhd, aimed at upgrading and modernising the state's palm oil sector.
YPJ is a subsidiary of the government-linked Yayasan Pelajaran Johor and focuses on palm oil production and trading, while PIJ, a company owned by the state government, operates across several sectors including property, agriculture, industry and halal products.
In a statement on Monday, JPG said the partnership covers 13,202 hectares of land owned by YPJ and PIJ, and aims to:
Johor's chairman for agriculture, agro-based industry and rural development, Datuk Zahari Sarip, said:
"This MOU reflects our shared responsibility to build a comprehensive and robust agribusiness ecosystem, particularly in the palm oil industry."
He added that the partnership between JPG, YPJ and PIJ would boost commercial growth and support Johor's goals in sustainability, digital transformation and workforce development.
Zahari noted that the strong focus on training and skills development would create quality job opportunities for young people and help Johor lead the sustainable agriculture sector under the Green Deal agenda, launched in 2023, which aims to guide sustainable development in the state by focusing on energy, transport, land use, nature, water, cities and low-carbon industry.
JPG managing director Mohamad Farid Adli Shukri said the group was committed to working closely with Johor government agencies to build a more efficient and sustainable agribusiness ecosystem.
He added:
"By pooling our resources and expertise, we aim to boost productivity, promote sustainable practices and upskill our agricultural workforce. This partnership marks an important step towards stronger collaboration that will benefit Johor's wider agricultural sector."
JPG shares rose one sen (0.8%) to 1.26 ringgit on Monday, giving the group a market capitalisation of 3.16 billion ringgit.
