In July of the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine exported 464,000 tonnes of sunflower oil, up 47% from June, marking one of the highest monthly export volumes of the season, according to APK-Inform. The main driver of this growth was the European Union, which imported 206,000 tonnes, up 43% from June.
India also continued to increase its purchases, with July shipments reaching 121,000 tonnes — the highest level since November 2023. Over the first eleven months of the season, Ukraine exported 4.58 million tonnes of sunflower oil, down 24% year-on-year and the second-lowest level since the 2016/17 season.
From September to July, shipments to India totalled 767,000 tonnes, up 55% from the same period last season and the highest level since the outbreak of the war. Ukraine's share of the Indian market rose to 23%, compared with 12% a year earlier, while Russian oil remained in the lead with a 58% share, and Argentina held steady at 12–13% despite a 30% drop in its export volumes.
Overall, India cut its sunflower oil imports during the September-to-July period to 2.28 million tonnes, down 22% due to reduced supplies from the Black Sea region, but it raised its soybean oil imports to 3.76 million tonnes, up 59%, thanks to more competitive prices.
