Authorities in Junagadh, Gujarat, have launched an extensive investigation following a raid at a factory near the city's marketing yard that resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected adulterated ghee and packaging materials. Preliminary reports indicate that the Special Operations Group (SOG) recovered more than 300 kilograms of the suspicious substance, alongside containers carrying labels from seven distinct brands.

The operation was initiated after the SOG received specific intelligence regarding the illegal production of adulterated fats at the facility. During the raid, officials discovered a substantial stock of ghee-like material, various packaging supplies, and raw materials suspected to be used in the manufacturing process. The unit has been identified in initial reports as Jai Krishna Industries.

A critical component of the ongoing investigation involves the discovery of labels belonging to seven different brands. This find has raised serious concerns regarding the potential distribution network and the possibility of product misrepresentation. Investigators are now working to establish whether these labels were being used without authorisation to facilitate the sale of sub-standard products in the market.

However, officials clarified that the presence of a brand label does not automatically implicate the company named on it. The involvement of any business will be verified through a thorough audit of supply documents, packaging records, and other physical evidence. Samples of the seized material are being sent for laboratory analysis to determine their exact composition and check for violations of food safety regulations.

This crackdown comes during a period when the demand for ghee and other food fats typically surges due to festive seasons, heightening public health concerns. Authorities emphasised that regular inspections and laboratory testing remain essential to protect consumers from fraudulent products. Further legal actions against responsible individuals will depend on the definitive findings of the laboratory results and the subsequent police assessment.
