Global demand for soybean oil continues to climb, with a sharp rise in soybean and palm oil purchases between August and October 2025 fully offsetting a decline in sunflower oil imports, according to a report from Oil World.
Analysts noted that total global imports of the three major vegetable oils rose by around 1.2 million tonnes during this period.
Experts point out that global soybean oil imports reached 1.35 million tonnes per month from January to October 2025, a record level representing an increase of more than 20% compared with the same period last year. India's share of total global imports also rose, ranging between 35% and 39% in recent months.
However, soybean oil import requirements have recently declined in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and several North African countries, owing to a rapid increase in domestic soybean crushing volumes, which will further curb these countries' demand for oil imports.
Analysts expect the market to remain volatile in the coming months, with demand levels varying across different regions of the world.
It was previously reported that India's imports of soybean oil and palm oil would rise, driven by lower prices. Imports of soybean oil by the "world's largest buyer" (India) in the new season are expected to exceed last year's record of 5.47 million tonnes.
