FELDA and FGV Holdings Bhd are working to redefine the role of palm oil in Malaysia’s future economy by treating palm oil byproducts as strategic resources rather than waste.
FGV plantation sector group director Azam Mustafa said the company’s role extends beyond plantation operations and contributes to national development through agriculture.
He said the group focuses on productive, efficient, and sustainable land development that can generate long-term social and economic value.
Azam added that agricultural modernization through technology, innovation, and best practices is essential for the future of the sector.
He said the key shift is to view waste not as a disposal problem, but as a resource and raw material that can be used.
Speaking at an online seminar titled “Waste to Wealth: Opportunities in Green Energy and the Circular Economy,” he stressed the importance of converting biomass into green energy.
He said biomass should be treated as an ecosystem, with plantations and communities acting as supply nodes and central processing hubs ensuring quality and efficiency.
