Dhaka, Bangladesh — The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has greenlit the acquisition of 20 million litres of refined palm olein, packaged in 2-litre PET bottles, at a total cost of Tk 368.20 crore. This significant procurement, approved on Wednesday, aims to ensure a stable supply of edible oil within the domestic market.

The decision was made during a meeting presided over by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the National Economic Council. The palm olein will be secured through the Open Tendering Method (OTM), following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Commerce. Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited has been recommended as the preferred bidder, offering the refined oil at a unit price of Tk 184.10 per litre. The total estimated cost for this edible oil procurement stands at Tk 368.20 crore.

In addition to the edible oil, the CCGP also recommended the purchase of three cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd. These cargoes are priced at $23.93 per MMBTU. The Energy and Mineral Resources Division proposed the LNG procurement, which will be executed via the international Request for Quotation (RFQ) process, in accordance with Rule 105(3)(a) of the Public Procurement Rules 2025.

The delivery schedule for the three LNG cargoes is set for August 26-27, August 29-30, and September 1-2, all in 2026. These approvals underscore the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen the supply chains for essential commodities and fuel, crucial for meeting the nation's domestic demand.
