Jammu, August 30 — The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Jammu and Kashmir has imposed an immediate ban on the sale, storage, distribution, and display of 10 ghee brands and batches across the Union Territory after laboratory analyses confirmed their adulteration with foreign vegetable fat.
The regulator acted under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, following tests conducted by laboratories in Ghaziabad and Kashmir. Samples were collected from multiple districts, including Anantnag, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Tral, and Pampore. Laboratory results revealed positive Baudouin tests, abnormal fatty-acid profiles, and other indicators confirming the products as sub-standard and misbranded.
The 10 affected batches are: Dairy Mohan Desi Ghee (05), Apna Dairy Milk Desi Ghee (DM-06), Milk Bite Cow Ghee (137), Nandni Desi Ghee (ND-28), Shahi Taj Desi Ghee (134), Daawat Fresh (VT09), Nand Krishna Cow Ghee (PC-05-26), Vandu Cow Ghee (D143), Dairy Milk Desi Ghee (OM12), and Mohan Dairy Ghee (06).
The FDA has ordered wholesalers, distributors, and retailers to immediately cease all commercial activity involving the affected batches and to report their existing stock details to the relevant authorities within 48 hours. Consumers have also been urged to verify the brand name, batch number, and packing date before purchasing ghee, and to report any prohibited products encountered in the market.
