FatHopes Energy, a leader in renewable energy solutions, and PVOIL, Vietnam's prominent petroleum corporation, announced a strategic partnership on August 13 aimed at establishing a comprehensive circular economy for used cooking oil (UCO) across Vietnam. This collaboration will convert UCO from diverse sources, including households, restaurants, industrial kitchens, and seafood processing plants, into certified renewable feedstock for advanced biofuels, notably Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The initiative integrates advanced digital technology with PVOIL's extensive nationwide infrastructure and adheres to international sustainability standards. This synergy is expected to accelerate Vietnam's transition towards cleaner energy and solidify its position within the burgeoning global bioeconomy.

Central to this partnership is FatHopes Energy's proven expertise in UCO collection, sophisticated digital traceability technologies, and global feedstock supply chain development. PVOIL contributes its vast operational network, which includes approximately 1,000 petrol stations, supported by robust logistics, transportation, and warehousing capabilities.

Together, the two entities will build a fully integrated ecosystem designed to collect, trace, and manage UCO throughout Vietnam. The program will initially launch in Ho Chi Minh City, with plans for progressive expansion across the entire country, creating a scalable national model. This model is set to bolster circular economy practices, enhance environmental governance, and supply high-quality, traceable feedstock crucial for SAF production.

At the core of the operation is FatHopes Energy's proprietary Waste Recycling Management System, an advanced digital platform ensuring end-to-end traceability for every drop of UCO collected. This system digitally verifies the oil from its point of origin, guaranteeing compliance with international sustainability requirements and providing full transparency for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and global certification standards.

Beyond technology, FatHopes Energy will transfer its operational expertise, collection methodologies, and international best practices refined across Southeast Asia. This knowledge transfer will empower PVOIL to rapidly develop a robust and efficient nationwide UCO collection network, addressing the increasing demand for sustainable feedstocks.

Leveraging its trusted national presence and operational strengths, PVOIL, alongside its dedicated collection subsidiary, PVOIL Trans, will spearhead the implementation and expansion of this initiative. They will engage businesses, communities, and local stakeholders nationwide to create one of Vietnam's most extensive waste-to-energy collection networks.

The collaboration also fosters stronger regional cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam in advancing SAF development. With global demand for SAF continuing its rapid ascent, Vietnam is poised to become a significant contributor to the regional supply of sustainable feedstocks, aligning with its national decarbonization goals and broader energy transition ambitions.

This partnership is projected to aggregate over 200,000 tonnes of feedstock annually in Vietnam, destined for export to FatHopes Energy. This will substantially strengthen FatHopes Energy's already extensive feedstock portfolio and support its upcoming refinery, which is positioned to become a regional hub for processing waste feedstocks into SAF, offering a 'plug-and-play' solution to expedite aviation decarbonization in the region.

Vinesh Sinha, CEO of FatHopes Energy, commented on the significance of the venture, stating, 'This partnership represents far more than the launch of a used cooking oil collection program. It marks the beginning of a new circular economy for Vietnam; one where everyday waste becomes a valuable resource that contributes to cleaner skies and a more sustainable future. By combining FatHopes Energy’s expertise in digital traceability, feedstock collection and Sustainable Aviation Fuel supply chains with PVOIL’s nationwide reach and operational capabilities, we are building the infrastructure needed to support Vietnam’s energy transition while strengthening Southeast Asia’s role in the global sustainable aviation ecosystem. We believe this partnership will serve as a blueprint for how countries across the region can unlock the value of waste, accelerate decarbonisation and create long-term environmental and economic impact.'

Mai Trung Thanh, Director of PVOIL Trans, affirmed, 'Our partnership with FatHopes Energy reflects the commitment of PVOIL and PVOIL Trans to supporting Vietnam’s transition towards a more circular and sustainable economy.'

In related industry news, increased petroleum imports and higher related taxes are being considered an effective strategy to offset shortfalls in domestic output. Furthermore, the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) is scheduled to divest its entire 36.3 percent stake, amounting to 44.2 million shares, in the Vietnam Vegetable Oils Industry Corporation (Vocarimex) on the Hanoi Stock Exchange on August 15. Separately, Eco Oil Vietnam officially launched its first automatic used cooking-oil collection machine in Vietnam on November 28, commencing in pioneering residential areas.
