In contrast, there has been a rapid increase in both demand and freight rates for 'coaster' vessels, indicating a preference for smaller, more agile shipping options.
The route from Danube ports to Egypt has witnessed the most substantial demand, directly contributing to its freight costs rising at double the pace of other routes. This intense focus on the Danube-Egypt corridor underscores its critical role in current grain logistics.
Estimates from the freight department at Atria Brokers corroborate these trends, indicating that the cost for transporting a 6,000-ton consignment of corn from Ukrainian Danube ports to Egypt currently stands at $65-67 per ton, confirming the week's sharp ascent in prices.
