Crude palm oil futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives are expected to trade sideways with a slight downward bias next week amid profit-taking, according to palm oil trader David Ng.
Ng told Bernama that prices are likely to range between 4,500 ringgit and 4,800 ringgit per tonne.
Meanwhile, Jim Teh, senior palm oil trader at Interband Group, expects the market to trade between 4,000 ringgit and 4,300 ringgit per tonne next week.
He noted that speculators could influence prices, which may push crude palm oil futures higher.
"As a result, India has cancelled its purchases of crude palm oil and related products from Malaysia, citing higher prices as the main reason," he added.
He explained that this price movement is largely driven by speculative trading.
This week, the crude palm oil market rose, supported by olein prices on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange, strong soybean oil prices, and higher crude oil prices.
On a week-on-week basis (Friday to Friday):
Weekly trading volume rose to 435,333 contracts, compared with 430,283 contracts in the previous week, while open interest widened to 243,818 contracts from 230,867 contracts.
The physical price of crude palm oil for March (South Malaysia) rose by 100 ringgit to 4,900 ringgit per tonne.
