The port of Chornomorsk experienced heavy attacks during the nights of July 10-11 and 11-12, 2026, leading to substantial damage to Kernel's port assets. These assaults resulted in extensive destruction and the forced suspension of terminal operations.
Damage specifically impacted loading and unloading equipment, critical terminal infrastructure, and essential power lines. Grain silos and sunflower oil tanks were either destroyed or severely damaged, causing significant blockages, spillage of commodities, and a notable degradation in quality for approximately 45,000 tons of wheat and 9,000 tons of sunflower oil.
Despite the scale of the attacks, the company's robust security measures successfully ensured that there were no casualties among its employees.
A comprehensive technical assessment of the damages, the total volume of lost grain, and the required capital expenditures is currently underway. The timeline for restoring the port's operational capacities will be determined following the completion of cleanup operations and the conclusions of a thorough engineering audit.
Kernel emphasized that these targeted strikes on port infrastructure present a direct threat not only to global food security but also to international maritime safety. The company highlighted that vessels flying the flags of nations such as China and others, which load cargo at the port, are particularly at risk during such attacks.
