Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has announced substantial investments aimed at boosting its oilseed crush capacity across North America. This strategic move is a direct response to the strong demand for biofuels, particularly driven by supportive policy in the United States, according to Gary McGuigan, president of ADM’s North America Ag Services and Oilseeds business.
McGuigan emphasized that these investments underscore ADM's dedication to pursuing targeted growth opportunities emerging from long-term demand trends, which are creating new prospects for both farmers and customers. He noted, 'Strong demand – supported by biofuels policy in the U.S. – is driving opportunities for farmers and the broader American agricultural sector. By choosing to build on our existing footprint and adopting individualized enhancement plans for each facility, we’re ensuring that we are investing wisely and preserving flexibility while ultimately delivering a meaningful increase in capacity across our North American network.'
The company plans to achieve this capacity expansion through focused improvements to its existing operations. This approach will allow ADM to increase throughput by leveraging its established infrastructure. Initial efforts will concentrate on investments at four specific production facilities within the U.S.
These targeted enhancements are projected to unlock approximately 700,000 metric tons of additional annual crush capacity across the four sites. This increase is equivalent to generating over 25 million bushels of new demand for American farmers. Furthermore, ADM is actively evaluating several other North American crush locations for similar future investment opportunities.
These current projects build upon a series of recent investments aimed at strengthening ADM’s U.S. operational footprint. Previous upgrades include improvements at its corn facility in Clinton, Iowa, and capacity expansions at its elevator located in Optima, Oklahoma.
McGuigan concluded, 'These investments will help connect more American farmers to growing domestic and global markets while strengthening the infrastructure that supports U.S. agriculture. We're proud to continue investing alongside the farmers, communities and colleagues who make these operations successful.'
