中国橄榄油
China has not left any field in which it has had experiences. After penetrating all fields of economy, military, automotive industry, and modern technology, we tried to find out what it has achieved in the agricultural field, whether it has succeeded in growing olive trees and producing olive oil? Has the climate helped it successfully cultivate the “blessed tree”?
We noticed that Chinese olive oil is experiencing significant growth. China has invested in olive cultivation in areas such as “Gansu” and “Sichuan” (、), and is producing increasing quantities ranging from 60 to 80 thousand tons per year During the last seasons. This was due to government plans and huge projects, which enabled it to achieve international awards for its oil, especially in the “extra virgin” category, to become a rising competitor in the global market and opening new export markets, despite the dominance of Spain and Italy over the imported Chinese market.
The city of “Longnan” in Gansu province is a major center for olive cultivation in China. Its cultivation started in 1964 with a gift from Albania. Today, it is the largest base for the production of extra virgin olive oil and seedlings in China, producing most of the local production.
On the other hand, areas such as “Sichuan” have similar potential for olive cultivation due to their climatic conditions similar to the Mediterranean region, although the volume of production has not reached the level of “Gansu” so far, with a great focus on developing local varieties other than imported ones.
Foreign expertise has played a crucial role, especially with the arrival of the Spanish olive grove expert Pedro Rodriguez Sanchez (Pedro J. Rodríguez Sánchez) To the city of Wudu to support the sector.
At that time, there were many problems, as the survival rate of the olive tree in the area did not exceed 50%, but with its help this rate rose to 94%, which has directly contributed to the prosperity of the olive sector in the region.
China imports seedlings of distinctive varieties that can grow in their climatic conditions from countries such as Spain and Greece to enhance its local sector. The most prominent of these varieties are:
Chinese olive oil produced in the Wudu region won an award in the International Olive Oil Competition held in Greece. This coronation has opened the door for the Chinese producer to break into the international market. He has gradually moved abroad. Cooperation has been with Korea As the first importer of Chinese olive oil.
China is gradually transforming from an importer of olive oil to a producer, with an interest in the agriculture sector and integrating this product into traditional Chinese dishes. However, it is still an importer of Spanish and Italian olive oil.
The question remains: Will there ever be a strong competition between original olive oil from traditional producing countries and high-quality Chinese olive oil?
