The U.S. Department of Agriculture has raised its forecast for soybean oil consumption in the biofuel sector for the 2025-'26 marketing year, according to the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report released this month.
The agency's September Crop Production report, published on September 11, projects U.S. soybean production for 2026 at 4.53 billion bushels, a slight increase from the previous forecast and 6% above 2025 levels.
Separately, data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released on August 31 shows that the U.S. biofuel industry consumed 30.46 billion pounds of feedstock in June 2025, up 4% from May and 6% higher than June 2024. The figures underscore continued momentum in renewable fuel production across the country.
In a related development, Bayer and Neste, the world's leading producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), announced on September 9 the finalization of a commercial agreement to jointly scale Bayer's 'newgold' winter canola variety. The partnership is expected to expand the feedstock base for renewable diesel and SAF production.
On the bioeconomy front, the BDO Zone Initiative published its 2025 Annual Report, titled 'Building the Bioeconomy Infrastructure,' on August 31. The report documents a transition from expansion to execution for the network, with CAD $10 billion in announced biomanufacturing investment over the past year. In a related announcement, the BDO Zone Initiative, together with the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency and Ecostrat, issued a BDO Zone 'A' Rating for Allegany County, New York, covering 300,000 bone dry tons per year of low-risk woody biomass.
