In the 2025/26 season, Ukraine's sunflower oil production is expected to fall by close to 10% to 4.6 million tonnes, compared with 5.1 million tonnes the previous year, according to data from the Ukroilprom association. The decline is attributed to a smaller sunflower crop, which limits the raw material base available for processing. Sunflower oil exports are also expected to fall 6.4% to 4.4 million tonnes.
Despite the lower production volumes, sunflower oil export revenues are not expected to decline. On the contrary, the association indicates that these revenues are expected to rise on the back of higher global prices for the product.
Industry representatives point out that the current season is marked by structural shifts: Ukraine is increasingly expanding its processing of rapeseed and soybeans while reducing exports of raw materials. This partly helps offset the shortfall in sunflower seed and maintain utilisation rates at crushing and extraction plants.
In particular, during the period from September to February of the 2025/26 marketing year, rapeseed oil exports more than doubled, while soybean oil exports contributed to an increase in export revenues of close to 20%. In some periods, the volumes of rapeseed and soybeans processed exceeded the volumes exported as raw materials.
