Tunisian olive oil exports saw a 28.9% decline in value during the first six months of the current season (November 2024 – April 2025), totalling 2,442.4 million dinars compared with the same period of the 2023/2024 season, according to data released by the National Observatory of Agriculture on Wednesday.

The data showed that 17.7% of this revenue came from exports of packaged olive oil. The average price of olive oil in April 2025 also fell by 48.9% compared with the same month of the previous season, with prices ranging between 7.1 dinars and 18 dinars per kilogramme depending on the grade.

The European market accounted for the largest share of Tunisian olive oil sales, at 59.6%, followed by North America with 24.9%, while African markets took just 9.6% of total exports.

By contrast, export volumes rose over the same period, reaching 180,200 tonnes from the start of the season through the end of April 2025 — up 40.1% on the same period of the previous season (2023/2024). Packaged olive oil made up only 11.9% of this volume, with the remaining 88.1% exported in bulk. Extra virgin olive oil accounted for 82.5% of total exports.

Italy topped the list of countries importing Tunisian olive oil, with a 29% share of volumes exported during the first half of the season, followed by Spain with 26%, and the United States with 19.6%.

Exports of organic olive oil reached 34,300 tonnes worth 469.1 million dinars by the end of April 2025, with packaged oil making up just 5% of that volume. The average price per kilogramme of organic oil stood at 13.68 dinars, ranging from 13.47 dinars/kg for bulk oil to 17.65 dinars/kg for packaged oil.

Tunisian organic olive oil is exported mainly to Italy (58% share), Spain (21%) and the United States (11%).
