The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Pakistan has launched a comprehensive nationwide initiative to compile a detailed database of edible oil and ghee producers across the country. This move aims to pave the way for the implementation of a modern electronic monitoring system across the sector.

The tax authority issued a directive to all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue, instructing field formations to conduct a thorough stocktaking of all edible oil and ghee producing facilities operating within their jurisdictions. This includes operational units, temporarily closed units, and non-operational units.

The FBR stated that the primary objective of this exercise is to develop a complete and updated database of facilities, which is essential for the effective planning and seamless implementation of the electronic production monitoring system.

Tax officials have been tasked with collecting detailed information on each facility, including the types of products manufactured, packaging sizes, the number of filling lines, installed production capacity, and whether refined oil is sold or dispatched in bulk.

The authority also instructed Chief Commissioners to ensure that no production or packaging facility is omitted from this exercise and that all information is verified using the latest available records and through field inspections.

According to the directive, the consolidated information must be submitted to the FBR in Microsoft Excel format by July 31, 2026, with the matter accorded top priority.
