Egypt's Holding Company for Food Industries, under the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, plans to complete a comprehensive rehabilitation and development project covering 20 storage tanks at its oil and fat terminal in the El Mex area of Alexandria by mid-2026. The project aims to modernise infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of the terminal's storage system.

EGP 1 Billion in Self-Financing to Boost Logistics Capacity

Company sources told Amwal Al Ghad that the investment cost of the project stands at around EGP 1 billion, to be funded entirely through the company's own investments. The sources explained that the capacity of each tank ranges between 3,000 and 10,000 tonnes. The project forms part of a broader plan to upgrade infrastructure and improve the operational and supply efficiency of oils and fats, which will increase storage capacity and enhance logistics efficiency.

A Strategic Step Towards Food Security

The sources affirmed that the project represents a strategic step to strengthen the company's storage and logistics capabilities, in line with the state's strategy to develop the food industry and improve the efficiency of supply chains, thereby supporting Egypt's food security efforts.

The Importance of Tanks in Vital Industries

Storage tanks are a core component of the storage and transport systems used across many industries, particularly food and petroleum. They are used to hold liquid and semi-liquid materials, such as oils and fats, in a safe, monitored environment that ensures product quality and supply continuity. Tanks are typically made from stainless steel or materials resistant to pressure and corrosion, and are fitted with advanced safety systems to monitor levels, temperature and pressure, along with thermal insulation for sensitive materials.

Reducing Losses and Improving Efficiency

Experts believe that upgrading the tanks is a pivotal factor in raising operational efficiency and reducing losses within the oils and fats system, as well as strengthening the logistics capabilities of the Holding Company for Food Industries' terminal. This move aligns with government efforts to modernise the food industry and develop integrated supply chains that support the competitiveness of Egypt's industrial sector, both domestically and regionally.
