Indonesia and Russia have marked a significant advancement in their economic ties, particularly within the palm oil sector, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between leading industry associations from both nations. The agreement, which took place in Moscow on July 10, also includes the Association of Enterprises of the Fat and Oil Industry of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Details of the pact were disclosed in a press release issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, received on July 11, 2026. The MoU was formally executed by the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), Russia's Fat and Oil Union, and the EAEU's industry association. The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished officials, including Indonesian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus Jose Tavares, the Trade Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, other embassy officials, and representatives from the Indonesian Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP KS).

This strategic agreement aims to strengthen collaborative efforts among palm oil industry stakeholders. Its provisions include facilitating information sharing, organizing joint promotional campaigns, fostering business networking, and actively working to expand market access for palm oil and its derivative products across the regions. Furthermore, the parties are committed to boosting bilateral trade between Indonesia, Russia, and the EAEU member states through enhanced cooperation among businesses in the sector.

Ambassador Jose Tavares underscored the importance of the MoU, stating it reflects the deepening economic relations between Indonesia and Russia and highlights substantial opportunities for greater cooperation in agribusiness. He commented, "This cooperation is a strategic step toward strengthening business-to-business relations between our two countries. As the world's largest producer of palm oil, Indonesia is ready to build a mutually beneficial partnership with Russia and the EAEU member states through enhanced trade, investment, and industrial collaboration."

Indonesia holds its position as the world's largest producer and exporter of palm oil, while Russia and the EAEU member nations are recognized as a growing and expanding market for Indonesian palm oil offerings. The Indonesian Embassy articulated its expectation that this collaboration between industry associations will lead to improved communication channels among businesses, cultivate a deeper understanding of market dynamics, and ultimately generate broader prospects for trade and investment across the Indonesian and Eurasian regions.
