Jakarta – Indonesia has reached 75–80% nationwide distribution of its B50 biodiesel less than two months after making the 50% blend mandatory, with the government targeting full availability at every fuel station by October 1, according to Antara News.
Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said distribution through Pertamina-operated stations had already reached roughly 90% as of August 31. 'Total distribution is between 75% and 80%, but the distribution from Pertamina gas stations is already at 90%,' she told reporters after a meeting with House of Representatives Commission XII in Jakarta on Monday.
The ministry is continuing to monitor the rollout and plans to strengthen its evaluation and supervision framework to keep the programme on track. Eniya noted that the government would reassess the situation over the coming month as it works toward the October 1 deadline.
Indonesia officially introduced the mandatory B50 biodiesel programme in July 2026, requiring diesel fuel sold across the country to contain 50% biodiesel. The policy builds on a decade of successive mandates, including the earlier B30, B35 and B40 programmes.
Jakarta has described B50 as the world's first nationwide mandatory 50% biodiesel blending programme. The initiative is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen energy security and curb the country's reliance on imported diesel.
According to government estimates, B50 could cut greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 44.46 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent in 2026 alone. Authorities also expect the programme to generate foreign-exchange savings of up to Rp170 trillion this year, while lifting the domestic value of crude palm oil (CPO) and supporting around 2.1 million jobs.
With nationwide distribution now approaching the 80% mark, the government is turning its attention to completing the final phase of the rollout and ensuring consistent availability of B50 across all regions of the country.
