Indonesia's nationwide rollout of B50 biodiesel has reached approximately 94 percent of gas stations, according to Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Citing data from state energy trader Pertamina Patra Niaga, Dewi said on Tuesday that 6,050 retail sites have started distributing B50, while 360 others remain in a transitional period between fuel grades.
At the wholesale level, 76 of the country's 104 delivery terminals have already switched to B50, with the remaining 28 still transitioning from B40.
Cumulative biodiesel distribution reached 10.69 million kiloliters as of September 2026. B40 volumes totaled 7.27 million kiloliters between January and June, while B50 volumes have reached 3.42 million kiloliters since the grade was introduced in early July.
The Ministry has set a fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) availability target of between 16.8 million and 18 million kiloliters for the year, FAME being the key feedstock for the B50 blend.
A transition window from B40 to B50 has been extended until September 30, 2026. Testing of B50 for railway locomotives is currently underway, while trials for the automotive, machine tool, agricultural, heavy mining equipment, maritime transport, and power generation sectors have already been completed, Dewi said.
Separately, Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Mars Ega Legowo Putra reported that 120 of the company's 121 fuel terminals are now distributing B50. The Sintang Terminal in West Kalimantan is the only depot yet to begin, owing to logistical constraints caused by prolonged dry weather.
'The Sintang Terminal is facing access challenges because rivers have shrunk during the dry season, making it difficult to reach the depot by conventional waterway,' Legowo Putra said. 'We continue working to resolve the supply chain disruption.'
