The Gafsa Governorate hosted an expanded working session on Tuesday afternoon to review the logistical and material preparations for the upcoming olive harvesting and milling season. The meeting included all relevant stakeholders from agricultural departments and regional bodies to ensure the success of this strategic sector.
Olive cultivation holds significant strategic importance for the region, with olive groves spanning a vast area of 87,840 hectares. This landscape hosts approximately 13.56 million olive trees, making the sector a primary pillar of the local agricultural and economic infrastructure.
Preliminary estimates for the current season suggest a promising harvest of 85,000 tons of olives, which is expected to yield approximately 17,000 tons of virgin olive oil. To facilitate the milling process under optimal conditions and maintain product quality, the region has prepared 37 oil mills distributed across various districts. Authorities emphasized the necessity of adhering to environmental regulations and ensuring tight coordination among all actors to maximize the output of this promising season.
