
Global sunflower production in the 2026/27 marketing year may reach a record 62-63 million tonnes, according to APK-Inform.
Farmers in several countries are partially shifting away from corn and other crops that require large amounts of fertilizer toward sunflower and soybeans.
As a result, global sunflower planted area could rise to a record 34.1 million hectares, compared with 32.8 million hectares in the previous season.
The European Union is expected to increase sunflower acreage this spring, with growth forecast in France, Hungary, Bulgaria and Spain. Russia and Ukraine are also expected to record strong production gains.
Sunflower remains strategically important for Ukraine, which is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of sunflower oil.
