Egypt’s exports of edible oils, fats, and greases achieved a major leap and outstanding performance between January and July 2026, solidifying their status as key growth drivers for the country’s total food industry exports, spurred by rising demand in European and Arab markets.
According to data released by the Food Export Council, chaired by Mahmoud Bazan, the sector’s performance breakdown was as follows:
- Edible Oil Exports:
- Total export value reached approximately $298 million during the first seven months of 2026, ranking third among Egypt's primary food export commodities.
- The segment recorded robust growth of 35%, marking an increase of $77 million compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
- Edible oils ranked second among commodities contributing most to overall export growth in the food industries sector.
- Fats and Greases Exports:
- Total exports reached around $114 million.
- The category registered a significant growth rate of 50%, with a value increase of $38 million year-on-year.
- It secured a spot among the top five major commodities driving food export expansion over the period.
- Top Destination Markets for Egyptian Edible Oils:
- Spain: Ranked first globally among markets driving growth in Egyptian food exports, largely fueled by a $50 million increase in edible oil shipments—underscoring strong European demand for high-value Egyptian products.
- Algeria: Witnessed a record surge in Egyptian edible oil imports, recording a value increase of $58 million.
- Palestine: Recorded an increase of $9 million in imports of Egyptian edible oils.
- Sector Indicators:The figures highlight that edible oils, fats, and greases served as a cornerstone of national export expansion; the top five food commodities combined—led by oils and fats—accounted for 56% of total food export growth, demonstrating the global competitiveness and expanding market reach of Egyptian agri-food products.
