Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), an integral part of Dubai Municipality, has deployed cutting-edge automated technology designed to significantly enhance the quality testing of oils and fats. This strategic advancement aims to bolster food safety standards across the emirate and streamline laboratory operations.

The new technology drastically reduces the time required for comprehensive testing, transforming a process that previously took two hours into a mere two minutes. This efficiency boost is complemented by a substantial increase in daily testing capacity, which has soared by 900% – from six samples to an impressive 60 samples per day. The automation ensures accurate and reliable analysis, minimizing the need for human intervention.

Crucially, this system supports the early detection of indicators related to the oxidation and overall quality degradation of oils and fats during both manufacturing and storage phases. By providing faster and more precise data, the technology reinforces Dubai Municipality's proactive food control capabilities, thereby safeguarding the quality and safety of food products available throughout Dubai.

In addition to its speed and accuracy, the advanced testing method aligns with Dubai Central Laboratory’s commitment to sustainable practices. It supports green laboratory initiatives by eliminating the chemical consumables traditionally required by conventional testing methods. This not only enhances resource efficiency and reduces the environmental footprint of laboratory operations but also maintains stringent accuracy and compliance with international standards.

Eng. Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the significance of this technological integration. She stated that 'the introduction of this technology marks an important step in the continuous evolution of the Laboratory’s testing capabilities through advanced scientific and technological solutions.'

She further elaborated, 'The adoption of this technology enhances the efficiency and speed of laboratory testing while maintaining the accuracy and reliability required to support food safety and consumer protection. By increasing testing capacity and enabling faster analysis, we can strengthen proactive regulatory processes and respond more efficiently to developments within the food manufacturing sector.'

Eng. Ahmed also emphasized the broader impact, adding, 'The technology will also contribute to strengthening consumer confidence in the safety and quality of food products available in Dubai. It enables regulatory authorities to identify potential quality issues more rapidly and helps ensure that products comply with approved international standards and specifications.'

Dubai Central Laboratory remains dedicated to advancing its technical capabilities and laboratory services through the adoption of innovative technologies. These continuous efforts are central to enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and sustainability, ultimately supporting consumer protection and contributing to the consistent quality and safety of products across Dubai.
