World Trade Organization (WTO) experts largely supported the European Union’s restrictions on the use of palm oil in biofuels last Friday, following a complaint filed by Indonesia.
Indonesia, the world’s largest palm oil producer, requested a panel review of the EU restrictions in 2019.
A Geneva-based trade official told AFP that the dispute panel found the decision was largely in favor of the European Union.
The official added that the panel nevertheless found some shortcomings in how the challenged measures were prepared, published, and administered.
The European Union had considered palm oil production to be unsustainable.
