Vietnam is set to launch its inaugural nationwide system for collecting used cooking oil (UCO), a strategic move aimed at bolstering the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other biofuels. The initiative stems from a collaborative agreement between FatHopes Energy and PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL).
Under the partnership, FatHopes Energy will contribute its advanced digital traceability technologies and specialized expertise in UCO collection methodologies. PVOIL, a major player in Vietnam's energy sector, will leverage its extensive network of approximately 1,000 filling stations and robust logistics infrastructure to facilitate the collection process.
The two entities plan to establish a fully integrated system that encompasses the collection, tracking, and efficient management of used cooking oil across the country. The project is slated for an initial rollout in Ho Chi Minh City, with subsequent phases designed for gradual expansion throughout Vietnam.
Company representatives highlighted that this project is crucial for advancing a circular economy within Vietnam, effectively transforming what would otherwise be food waste into valuable feedstock for fuel manufacturing. Furthermore, the creation of a reliable and stable UCO supply chain is anticipated to significantly support the growth of SAF and other renewable fuel industries in Vietnam.
