Ukraine has launched the 2026/27 sunflower seed export season by dispatching its first vessel to Turkey, signalling a more active pace of trade. Turkish importers have already secured their October requirements and are now primarily seeking cargoes for November and December delivery.
Export prices for Ukrainian sunflower seed have edged lower over the past week. Earlier transactions for delivery to Turkey's Marmara region were concluded at approximately $640 per tonne, while new sales emerged late last week at around $618 per tonne.
Bulgarian buyers have trimmed their bids by €5–8 per tonne, sharpening competition between the principal export destinations for Ukrainian sunflower seed.
Meanwhile, the question of minimum export prices applied to customs valuation remains unresolved for Ukrainian exporters. Market participants are awaiting either the introduction of a reduction coefficient or the publication of a new price table, which is expected on 10 October.
With the first vessel of the season now en route to Turkey, traders also anticipate greater clarity on cargo clearance procedures at Turkish ports. During the previous season, several cases emerged in which additional quality issues were raised after cargoes had already arrived in Turkey.
